What is jamendo?
Jamendo www.jamendo.com provides a very much needed service on the online maze of Mp3 stores. The truth of the matter is that these days, there are not all that many new interesting bands. At least that is what I had thought. Jamendo is an online resource that offers many artists an outlet for releasing their work for an ever growing community to download (at a very high quality) or stream online. Free.
So, how does it work?
Artist's release, or upload their work on the Jamendo website under the Creative Commons license. For private use, you can download it, and do what you like with it. If you would like to make use of a tune for, say a commercial you are making, or a movie soundtrack, or what have you. You can purchase a License through Jamendo and the artist will be reimbursed.
I just really wanted to share some of the great artists that I have found on Jamendo. Some of this stuff is just shameful that they do not have a bigger audience, and there is something for everyone.
Houdini Roadshow Rocking Steady
Here's the good stuff:
Brad Sucks
Brad Sucks is an awesome rock band, I suppose some would call it Indie but I won't cause that label makes me cringe. They are a little electronic and a lot of rock. Very clever lyrics.
Self Proclaimed: "one man band, with no fans" I imagine it's an exaggeration...

Shearer
Wow! Punk rock from Germany, that really hits hard. Catchy, and melodic I listen to the album “Eve” all the time. Bring me down, Can't Stop it, 69, all really great rockin' tracks.

Major Major
Trying to get some more info on these guys, I found out they won or lost some kind of Rockstar competition. To bad really, if they did, they are incredible. The song China Drop in particular, they really have some serious chops.

Houdini Roadshow
This is really great. Pure Rock and roll adrenaline. Also from Germany, Rock Punk Rockabilly it's just a lot of fun. Their new ep will cost you a couple of bucks but you can find their first album for free on Jamendo.

Helldorados
From Germany, (I'm seeing a trend here) Just some hard driving Rock and Roll. Grab the Album “Just Rock” cause it does.

Josh Woodward
This is one of my favorite finds on Jamendo. Woodward is from the old school of songwriting, his albums are all acoustic rock songs that are so perfect that it makes you wonder what the heck is wrong with this world that he is so little known. You can pretty much Grab anything he has put out here and grab some of his live shows free on his website of course there are many other treats there and if your ipod is busted buy some Woodward cd's. As well.
The Album “Here Today” is a great place to start.

The jolly rogers blues band
From Spain. It ain't Blues, or at least not in any kind of pure form I have ever heard. If is is, it is run through such an insane 70's fuzzed out stooges/blue cheer filter, that it is no longer recognizable. This is some Gloriously lo-fi fuzzed out Rock and Roll and tons of fun.

Nasty Army
From Spain, 80's hair metal in the vein of The Crue and other sleaze metal. A lot of fun.

FatBlueMan
Gleb Bones
Rock and Glam, This is totally worthwhile really fuzzy Rock and Roll.

Letmein
Punk, Emo, very good production. Tight playing and good songwriting, very worthwhile.

Diablo swing orchestra
I like to listen to things that are different, well this one is a real original. It is Metal, Punk, Jazz, Swing with a female opera singer. Weird? Very, but not bad although I have never been able to listen to it all the way through. These guys have vision albeit a very confused one, but they are good

Sekshun 8
Take Corrosion of conformity mix it with Nickleback and you get Sekshun 8. A very good rock band with some excellent sludgy riffs.

Fatblueman
Some really nice Softer melodic rock, from Japan

The Liquid Kitchen - It's Alright
Revenge
80's metal again, sound like Accept with Brain Johnson from AC/DC singing. Pretty good, they are from France.

The liquid Kitchen
If Neil Young did Modern Rock, this would be it.

Silence is Sexy
If you like Coldplay (I don't) this sounds like them. I'm gonna say nothing more about this one, I know you Coldplay fans can be a rabid bunch when it comes to naysayers.
Sekshun 8 - Black Winged Butterfly
Jamendo has tons of stuff for you to plow through, think of this as a primer , (and new stuff is added all the time). If you haven't already, head on over an fill up your MP3 player with some great free albums.

I don't really care for Coldplay either and know what you mean about their fans being all defensive.
I probably never would have heard about this site if it weren't for your hub, so thanks for writing it!
